Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti,
whose abusive remarks during an election meeting in New Delhi last
month triggered a huge row paralysing Parliament for over a week, will
hold a rally on Monday in the national capital's Trilokpuri region, an
area that saw communal violence during Diwali this year.
A senior
party leader said Sadhvi's episode was now over and the leader would go
among the people and apprise them about the work done by the Narendra Modi
government. Party sources also said MPs holding 'nukkad jansabhas' have
been advised to avoid giving controversial statements so that
opposition could not get another chance to criticise the saffron party.
The
BJP, however, has relocated the venue of the meeting following police
instructions. Jyoti, who was to address the 'nukkad sabha' in Block-36
of Trilokpuri will now hold the meeting at Block-34. The request was
made in the backdrop of a communal clash between Hindus and Muslims in
Trilokpuri on Diwali.
The Minister of State for Food
Processing Sadhvi had recently made a controversial statement, leaving
the BJP and the government embarrassed. "People of Delhi have to decide
if they want a government of Ramzaadon (followers of Ram) or a
government of those who are Haraamzadon (illegitimate)," she said,
raising a huge storm.
Jyoti later expressed "deep regret"
and apologised in Parliament for her abusive remarks. An angry
opposition, which demanded her removal for over a week, was placated on
Monday by an appeal from Rajya Sabha chairperson Hamid Ansari.
Besides Sadhvi, seniuor BJP leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad,
Menaka Gandhi and other top party leaders are scheduled to hold nearly
90 nukkad jansabhas (street corner meetings). Other Union ministers.
including Najma Hepatullah, Satyanarain Jatia and Thawar Chand Gehlot,
have also been roped in.
The party will also hold around
350 street corner meetings across the national capital in the coming
weeks. "This week will see a big show of around 350 BJP nukkad jansabhas
in all corners of Delhi with even senior ministers going to these
corner meetings," Delhi BJP said in a statement.
